Riverkeeper elves recommend visit to REI Fairfax this Saturday, December 3rd
If you need to get your holiday shopping done but your mind is REALLY on your next paddle, bike ride or run along the Potomac, then we are here to help!
This Saturday, December 3rd, our friends at REI Fairfax are holding their legendary Attic Sale, a once a year member-only event where they offer returned or slightly damaged gear at great prices. They are also open to the general public from 10-9PM and offer a ton of great gift ideas. They have generously invited us to come to speak with shoppers about the Potomac and our work on the river.
We hope you will come out to shop, say hi and register to win some Potomac Riverkeeper gear and other giveaways while you are at it.
To help get the gift ideas flowing, here are some tips from our team.
Communications and Outreach Manager Whit Overstreet needs a new dry bag ($119). “When paddling Mather Gorge in December, even I don’t want to be stuck without a spare set of dry clothes.”
Sarah Sorenson, Potomac Riverkeeper’s Production and Membership Coordinator, loves REI’s fleece neck gators ($11), useful on her morning runs along the Georgetown Waterfront Park and up the C&O Canal Towpath. “They are so versatile,” says Sorenson. “I can use it for my ears or my neck or just stuff them in my coat when I don’t need it.”
With fewer hours of sunlight these days, I’ll be asking Santa for a new bike light ($60) so folks know I'm a comin' during my favorite early morning river ride along the Mt Vernon trail.
Of course, if you stop by our table this Saturday you can complement any one of these items by giving someone you care about a Potomac Riverkeeper Membership. It’s the gift of clean water and community! We are offering a special holiday membership offer all day Saturday, which includes a special printed gift card. If you are interested, but can’t make it to the store, please contact Sarah at keeper@potomacriverkeeper.org.
So from your favorite river elves, have a great weekend and we hope to see you Saturday at Fairfax REI!
