The guys are steadily approaching Jefferson Island, the final stop on the Island to Island Paddle! So far, we've been featured Whit on our blog posts. The other day, I caught up with Joe Hage (JH below), caretaker of the Sycamore Island Canoe Club. He answered a few of my questions about the journey so far. Check it out!
DP: How has the paddle been going?
JH: It's been great! I've never done a trip this long before, or been this far down the river. It's been a learning experience and fascinating to me.
DP: What has been your favorite experience overall?
JH: Definitely the people we've been meeting. For the most part, people are excited about our trip. They want us to do well. Everyone is really friendly. There are some great people down here in the lower Potomac who love the river and want to be here all the time. It's a whole 'nother way of life that I never knew existed!
DP: What has been the most challenging aspect of the paddle?
JH: I'd say sticking to our schedule. We're learning that there are a lot of variables to work around. Tides, wind direction, storms. We have to be on river time!
DP: What's it been like working with Whit Overstreet?
JH: It's been an adventure. Whit is pushing us hard (laughs). We're doing some long paddles!
