Potomac Riverkeeper Annual Reports
2010 Annual Report: We increased partnerships with local businesses to help spread the word on the importance of protecting the health of our rivers and streams. We worked on pollution issues related to small farms, quarries, fly ash dumps, sewage sludge, paper mills, and construction runoff. Shenandoah Riverkeeper Jeff Kelble was a co-author on a USGS research paper that details how signs of declining fish health such as lesions and the intersex condition indicate that our water supply is degraded.
2009 Annual Report: We built a network that is committed to protecting and restoring the entire Potomac Watershed. At the same time, we are opening up information that helps people take clean water actions where they live. Together, we can fulfill the promise of a fishable, swimmable, and drinkable river. It all starts with being aware.
2008 Annual Report: We made big strides in protecting your right to clean water. In this report, we highlight some of our legal actions that demonstrate that we will go to great lengths to stop pollution from entering our waters and to insist on cleanup wherever contamination exists.
2007 Annual Report: In 2007, Potomac Riverkeeper demonstrated how big things sometimes come in small packages. Our small (but dedicated) five person staff has had enforcement, outreach, funding victories that mirror the accomplishments of staffs many times our size.
2006 Annual Report: 2006 was a “watershed moment” for us: Our Shenandoah Riverkeeper set up shop in Boyce, VA, we hired two new staff members, our most widely-read story about intersex fish made headlines, we announced our intention to sue a waste water treatment plant for dumping excessive amounts of phosphorus, nitrogen, and other toxins into the Shenandoah River, and We reached a settlement with Maryland over lead pollution in Great Seneca Creek.
2005 Annual Report: We created an historical record of pollution violators to help Potomac Riverkeeper crack down on worst polluters in the Potomac watershed, as well took action on a number of violations.
